Cowen predicts AI will drive user productivity to materially higher levels, with Microsoft at the forefront. Cowen sees Salesforce, Adobe and ServiceNow as well-positioned to deliver and monetize new AI-based application services. This study isn’t representative of global AI, data engineering and machine learning adoption trends. It does provide a glimpse into the current and future direction of AI, data engineering, and machine learning. Cowen finds the market is still nascent, with CIOs eager to invest in new AI-related initiatives. The following graphic provides an overview of the areas in software that Cowen found the greater potential for AI/ML investment. The following graphic provides an overview of company readiness for machine learning and AI projects. Market forecasts vary, but all consistently predict explosive growth. Machine Learning is predicted to generate the most revenue and is attracting the most venture capital investment in all areas of AI. Venture Scanner found that ML raised $3.5B to date, far ahead of the next category, Natural Language Processing, which has seen just over $1Bn raised to date. Venture Scanner believes that Machine Learning Applications and Machine Learning Platforms are two relatively early stage markets that stand to have some of the greatest market disruptions. Cowen predicts it will be commonplace for enterprise apps to have machine learning algorithms that can provide predictive insights across a broad base of scenarios encompassing a company’s entire value chain. The potential exists for enterprise apps to change selling and buying behavior, tailoring specific responses based on real-time data to optimize discounting, pricing, proposal and quoting decisions. Machine Learning-based Applications and Deep Learning Neural Networks are experiencing the largest and widest amount of investment attention in the enterprise. Accenture leverages machine learning in 40% of active Analytics engagements, and nearly 80% of proposed Analytics opportunities today.

In the project Broomsticks, the AI only changes its position with respect to the ball. In this case, instead of Artificial Intelligence, it is more of Artificial Random because it never uses intelligence other than running into walls.

MIT builds Artificial Intelligence system that can detect 85% of Cyber Attacks

Security researchers at MIT have developed a new Artificial Intelligence-based cyber security platform, called ‘AI2,’ which has the ability to predict, detect, and stop 85% of Cyber Attacks with high accuracy. Cyber security is a major challenge in today’s world, as government agencies, corporations and individuals have increasingly become victims of cyber attacks that are so rapidly finding new ways to threaten the Internet that it’s hard for good guys to keep up with them. A group of researchers at MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory are working with machine-learning startup PatternEx to develop a line of defense against such cyber threats. The team has already developed an Artificial Intelligence system that can detect 85 percent of attacks by reviewing data from more than 3.6 Billion lines of log files each day and informs anything suspicious. The new system does not just rely on the artificial intelligence, but also on human input, which researchers call Analyst Intuition, which is why it has been given the name of Artificial Intelligence Squared or AI2.

Analytics industry lead er, Tom Davenport, stated it well when he predicted that “Smart leaders will realize that augmentation-combining smart humans with smart machines-is a better strategy than automation.” With the pace of innovation accelerating, large organizations in industries such as retail, insurance and government will focus even more energies on remaining competitive and discovering the next big thing by forming innovation labs. Innovation labs have existed for some time, but in 2016, we’ll begin to see more resources devoted to innovation labs and more technologies discovered in the labs actually implemented across different company functions and business lines. In addition and perhaps even more significant, 2016 will bring about a major shift in the perception of AI. It will cease to be a scary, abstract set of ideas and concepts and will be better understood and accepted as more people realize the potential of AI to augment what we do and make our lives more productive.
